Kyiv Post: How Ma’Rijany Hemp Company is Transforming Europe’s Textile Industry with hemp fiber
An article for Kyiv Post highlights the ambitious project of Ma’Rijany Hemp Company, which aims to revolutionize the European textile industry through industrial hemp fiber. We explore the key aspects of their business, the challenges they face, and the potential of this industry for Ukraine and the world.
Europe’s Largest Hemp Processing Plant
The Ukrainian company Ma’Rijany Hemp Company has begun constructing the largest hemp processing plant in Europe in the village of Ryzhany, Zhytomyr region. Founded by Andrii Mykytiv, co-founder of textile manufacturer K-Tex, the company plans to cultivate industrial hemp and process it into fiber for the textile industry.
“Hemp has enormous potential to replace cotton and synthetic fibers in the textile industry. We aim to revive this sector in Ukraine,” – said Andrii Mykytiv, founder of the company.
Diverse Applications of Hemp Fiber
Hemp fiber has a wide range of applications, including clothing, paper, parachutes, military uniforms, furniture upholstery, bedding, and ropes. Byproducts such as hurds can be used for insulation boards and animal bedding.
Despite its promising potential, the hemp industry in Ukraine faces bureaucratic barriers and strict regulations. The cultivation of industrial hemp is controlled by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which monitors the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content in plants.
“We see hemp not only as an economic opportunity but also as an ecological one, as it is one of the most sustainable crops in the world,” – emphasized Ihor Didok, project director.
Impact on Local Communities and Regional Economy
According to Oleksandra Fidkevych, project development consultant:
“For us, it is important not only to develop technology but also to support local communities. We will create new jobs and invest in staff training, helping to boost the regional economy.”
Future Plans and International Experience
The company also plans to collaborate with research institutions specializing in the breeding of non-narcotic hemp varieties. However, legislative restrictions currently complicate the commercialization of these research results.
More details on the use of hemp in the textile industry can be found on the company’s official website.
It is worth noting that industrial hemp is already widely used in countries such as France and Canada, where regulations support the development of the hemp industry. More information about international hemp cultivation and processing practices can be found in the Hemp Industry Daily report.
The Factory of the Future: Advanced Technology and Sustainability
“Our factory will be an example of how modern technology and sustainable principles can be combined. We want to show that hemp is not just the past—it is the future,” – concluded Mykytiv.
Conclusion: Advancing Green Technologies in Ukraine
Ma’Rijany Hemp Company aspires to become a leader in the European market, contributing to job creation and the advancement of eco-friendly technologies.
